Manchester United End Six-Year Trophy Drought with Dramatic Carabao Cup Victory

Casemiro Header and Botman Own Goal Secure Triumph

Manchester United's long wait for silverware ended in emphatic fashion on Sunday as they defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

After a tense opening period, the Red Devils took the lead on the half-hour mark when Casemiro powered home a header from Luke Shaw's corner. Just six minutes later, United doubled their advantage through a bizarre own goal by Newcastle defender Sven Botman, who inadvertently headed the ball into his own net following a Marcus Rashford cross.

Newcastle struggled to create chances in the second half, as United defended resolutely to secure their first trophy since winning the Europa League in 2017. The victory marks the first silverware for manager Erik ten Hag, who has overseen a remarkable turnaround in his debut season at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will now turn their attention to their remaining fixtures in the Premier League, where they are currently third in the table. Newcastle, meanwhile, will be determined to bounce back from their Wembley disappointment when they face Brentford in the Premier League next weekend.
